For those of you who are into the use of software to help improve your play, you’ll be happy to know that Hold ‘Em Manager has introduced a new feature in its latest iteration. It’s called the vision feature, and it allows you to do some things unprecedented in the poker software realm.

The Vision addition is a massive database that allows you to compare yourself to the others in the database. In short, it’s gives you a global perspective of where you rank compared to some of the best in the world. Not only does this feature give you a graph to compare to, it allows you to see detailed stats such as stake level, a histogram of profit and loss, and recent activity of poker players in tournaments and ring games.

As a result of this, the player gets and aid to the HUD that is included in Hold ‘Em Manager. Using this database in connection with the HUD, a user will have an extremely detailed picture of his opponent. With the ability to import hand histories, on top of a state of the art database feature, Hold ‘Em Manager users will be among the first to experience this kind of edge over other poker online players.

Here’s a neat little tip on how to make the most out of your poker hands when you have a high probability to win the hand. I like to call it the Spider bet. I named it, and aptly so, because when you make this kind of bet, you are essentially spinning a web around your prey, though not yet moving in for the kill. It’s also known as a pot sweetener.

The premise behind making a bet like this is the opposite of continuation betting. With a c-bet, you’re trying to deduce whether or not the hand is worth continuing, and you’re also trying to maintain pot control by remaining the aggressor.

The spider bet, on the other hand, is an enticement. It’s a smallish bet that you make to induce more calls, thus fattening up the prey. The poker prey being whoever is foolish enough to stay in the hand with you after you lay your trap.

The upside to this bet is that you’re allowing poker opponents to stay in the hand cheaply. By giving them better pot odds, it makes it all the more tempting to see the next card.

Many players are catching on to this type of bet though, and the more serious players are seeing that by making a smallish bet like that, that you really do want to get called. But if you can manage to find an unsophisticated player, who like to call with second best hands, then this, my friend, is an invaluable tool in your arsenal for transporting money from his stack to yours.
