(Is it possible to grow your own home business without a big
advertising account?
For sure you have not million’s to invest in advertising
campaigns. Not do I. But there’s many existing ways and several
method’s to grow your home business.
I don’t say that this advises would help you to be a
millionaire, but surely they will help you to do some actions.
As a smart home business owner and decision maker you know that
your business must bring in traffic and sales in order to not
commit suicide.
Therefore my first advice to you it’s to write articles. If it’s
possible, write 2 -4 articles per week. Submit your articles to
different articles directories.
The articles should be around 350 to 600 words long and
formatted to 65 characters per line.
A good advise is to write articles for specific niches, yours
first of all, and then sell them to info publishers. If you are
lucky they will even be willing to pay from ten to twenty
dollars, or euro, for your article. Depending if your article
has their name on it and it is aimed to their target market.
If you don’t feel comfortable with writing your own articles,
find a ghostwriter. You can find them at elance.com or at Just
Articles.com. For just a small amount of money they will help
you out, so that you can do other advertising jobs.
Do also researches on the specific area that your articles will
be about.
Second: It’s good if you make a lot of posts in different
Internet marketing forums. The point with this action is that
you are showing up everywhere. Because on every post you are
adding you will ad your own signature file that is peaking to
your own site. No cost at all. Isn’t good!
Third: Do not just read it…Do this things. Make a commitment
to yourself right here and right now that you’ve the
possibilities to do it.
Fourth: Add new messages to your own Autoresponder. It doesn’t
matter what it is that you are adding. It can be about your
self, offers that you have to give away or other announcements
you like the world to know about. Just do it regularly.
Fifth: Finally launch your own blog. It’s connected with that I
mentioned above. It is giving you your own high respectable
position on the web. Whit this way you are able to create new
high professional web pages. Pages that can be linked to your
current website (from your own home page) or promoted
separately. The great thing about it is that you’ll provide more
expert value for your website visitors. You are creating trust.
More trust = more money
Finally: Google and other search engines are in love with new
fresh articles created through blogs. And that means FREE
advertising.
Summary: Write articles, write articles and again… write
articles!

Lab Created Diamonds Are Now Exceedingly Good.
When we think of precious gems, we usually spare little thought
to the hard work that it takes to bring them to us in the
beautiful jewelry that we love to wear, but diamond mining is,
in fact, an expensive and dangerous procedure, reflected to the
consumer in the price that must be paid to own one. Wouldn’t it
be wonderful if there were some way to recreate that same
brilliance and beauty in a less dangerous, and hence less
expensive way? Today’s technological innovations mean that this
does not have to be a pipe dream any longer - with lab created
diamonds, we can wear beautiful gemstones produced by the
intelligence of mankind, rather than the trials and tribulations
of nature, and without the expense that mining brings. Lab
created diamonds are now very good and becoming as popular as
the real thing.
The popularity of diamonds have urged experts to try to find
more cost effective ways of providing the brilliance of the
stone in our jewelry, and over the years there have been many
alternatives to diamonds put forward, including cut glass,
rhinestones and cubic zirconium. While these have proved
satisfactory for some purposes, these lab created diamonds have
consistently lacked the brilliance and beauty of a genuine
diamond. This was until the discovery of moissanite in meteor
fragments, and the realisation that moissanite could be
reproduced in controlled circumstances, leading to the dawn of
lab made diamonds.
It was discovered in 1995 that moissanite could be reproduced
under laboratory conditions, and the unique beauty of the stone
made scientists realize that there would be a huge market for
these lab created diamonds. While the difficulty involved in
growing these lab made diamonds remains quite high, the price
for moissanite jewelry is higher than you might expect in a
diamond substitute, but today, many gemmologists consider the
moissanite stone to be a gem in and of its own right. Unlike
previous substitutes, moissanite is in many ways superior to
diamonds, with more sparkle and brightness that the mined gem.
Previously, choosing a gem that looked like a diamond but wasn’t
one was seen as a step down, a compromise, but with the quality
of today’s lab created diamonds, this is no longer the case. So
take advantage of today’s great moissanite prices while they
last, because someday soon, the brilliant sparkle of this stone
will make lab made diamonds even more sought after than the
‘real thing’.
Lab created diamonds, and Moissanite in particular, are now as
good as the real thing.
Don’t Let Failure Go To Your Head
I watched as an 8-year-old All-Star slid dramatically into second base. Yet the umpire gave the dreaded signal, “Out!” The crowd yelled, “That’s OK. Way to hustle! Great try!”
Another little fellow swings the bat with all the power he can muster…three times without hitting the ball. Each time, the fans encouraged, “Good swing! Now just pick out a good one and make contact! Watch it over. You can do it!” Then the strike-out. “That’s OK, man. Next time.”
I eavesdroppped as one of the coaches talked to my grandson Joseph’s team, who had just lost their second in the double elimination tournament. “We have nothing to be ashamed of. You guys played hard and you played well. The other team just played a little better this time. You’re gonna keep practicing and next year, you’ll come back and you’ll be great!”
I was impressed as Steven, another coach, modeled for his young protégés the responsibility he was trying to teach. In front of the whole team, he apologized to Adam for his own mistake in signaling the boy to run on to third base in a play that resulted in an out. He didn’t want the young man to blame himself for something that wasn’t his fault.
Maybe you’re thinking, “Of course, we tell them those things. We don’t want them to get discouraged. We want them to keep trying and not give up.”
Exactly.
We instinctively know what we need to do the keep these little guys motivated and encouraged.
(Most of us, that is. Unfortunately, in the last few years of attending these games, I have heard occasionally heard some children being subjected to loud, harsh criticism from insensitive parents. I admit I was savoring the idea of punching them out when I was deterred by picturing the next day’s headlines in the Hattiesburg American!)
HOW DO YOU TALK TO YOURSELF?
You know how to encourage others. But do you do as well with yourself? Do you know how to keep yourself encouraged in the face of failure and setbacks? Take this short quiz.
1. When you make a mistake, do you ever talk to yourself harshly and judgmentally, like this? “You idiot! Can’t you do anything right? You should have known better.”
Think about it. What if you had a spouse or a boss that talked to you this way? How would this affect your performance? Your morale? Your confidence?
Why not use more encouraging words to yourself, like the fans to the Little Leaguers? Talk to yourself about the effort you made, the little ways that your most recent try showed improvement over the last, and the things you learned from the failed attempt.
2. Do you ever generalize from a specific performance failure to seeing yourself as a general failure?
In other words, you didn’t fail that test. You’re a failure as a student. You didn’t lose that contract. You’re a dud as a salesperson.
Change that! Talk to yourself about the specific situation. Don’t overgeneralize.
3. When you don’t accomplish what you had hoped, do you tell yourself, “This is always the way it is for me?”
In other words, do you view the failure as a never-ending pattern?
Challenge that hope-robbing perspective. If you are to keep hope and keep trying, you must see your failures as temporary. Get to work and find out how you can do better next time.
4. Do you make yourself responsible for things over which you have no control?
Recognize your human limits. Others make their own choices about what they do, despite your best efforts. There are very real conditions that impact your success at a task, no matter how skillfully and diligently you try. Take responsibility for doing your best, but be realistic about what you can control and what you can’t.
BE YOUR BEST FRIEND
If you have trouble changing the habit of talking negatively to yourself, here’s another tool you can use. Imagine that your best friend were telling you about the situation you’re in, and that the words being used were self-berating…like yours. What would you say to him or her? How would you encourage him or her to find the best in the situation and keep trying?
See…you do know how to do it. Now, do that for yourself.
If you aren’t your own best friend, who will be?

Analyzing Commission Junction
Commission Junction is one of the 800 pound gorillas of Affiliate Marketing. CJ is part of the publicly held ValueClick, which earned $39 million last year on marketing programs, including affiliate programs, email marketing and software for advertising agencies.
CJ handles affiliate programs for a lot of the big names, including Home Depot, Yahoo and Citibank.
Can you make money with Commission Junction? Like most affiliate programs it depend on the theme or niche of your web site, and how well you match your content and the CJ programs.
Our spider ran through the site recently, and I’ve made a list of the major categories and their average Earnings Per Click (EPC). You will recall that EPC is calculated by taking the total commission payout for the advertiser and dividing it by the number of clicks that advertiser gets, so EPC measures how profitable each click is for the publisher. We used 7 day EPC, which measures EPC across the last seven days.
The spider also only saves the top ten advertisers in each category/subcategory, and since some advertisers are in more than one category/subcategory it tends to skew the results a bit (higher). We came up with an average of .56 (fifty-six cents) per click across the board averaging every category and subcategory.
We’ve created a metric we call True EPC or TEPC, which measures the actual Earnings Per Single Click, rather than the earnings per hundred clicks that companies like CJ use to make the numbers look bigger.
Note: I only included the first 5 categories here, and only part of the data. All of the data can be found at www.affiliateblog.com.
Here’s a very interesting list by category:
Category True EPC / Top Ad & TEPC
Financial Services $ 2.41 / Get Smart $ 32.98
Insurance $ 1.25 / American Life $ 2.98
Home & Garden $ 1.16 / Sunsetter $ 8.21
Web Services $ 1.13 / Yahoo Hosting $ 3.75
Computer & Electronics $ 0.87
Accessories $ 0.80
Health & Beauty $ 0.76
What does it all mean? Well, to me it means that if you have a website that gets visitors interested in Loans, Insurance, Sunsetter awnings or Yahoo hosting, you should be a member of Commission Junction.
More generally, if you think you can get decent clickthrough on Finance, Home & Garden, Insurance or Web Services, I would include some Commission Junction ads.
Some commentary on the top 4 ads: what strikes me right off the bat is that the little Yahoo text ad at #4 pulls almost four bucks. I actually signed up for that program myself, and I’m going to put it on this site when I get the chance. My calculations tell me that 1:5 to 1:7 clicks results in a signup.
What’s the flip side of all this data? There are categories that aren’t so great at CJ. If your site is about web services advice, handbags, new age, car travel or rentals, commercial insurance or weddings, I’d look elsewhere. Another way to interpret the data would be to say that the marketers CJ has for those categories don’t pull well. Still another would be that the type of sites that sign with CJ just don’t attract the type of people that would click on ads in those categories. No matter how you slice it it still comes out the same it seems like CJ isn’t the place to look to fill that ad space.
Not content with my mountain of data, I opened the firehose a little more. I ran a program that compared the average EPC for Pay-per-sale programs vs. Pay-Per-Lead programs. For per-sale, the EPC was .36. For per-lead it was .67. Intutitively I would say that advertisers pay more for sales than leads, so the clickthrough on leads has to be much higher on CJ, which also seems correct since less of a commitment is required from the visitor for a lead than a sale. So if you have a choice in programs between sale and lead, take the lead program.
So what did we learn here? It seems to me that if your site visitors would respond to banners or text links about mortgage financing, insurance, gardening or web services, add some CJ banners to the mix. What the heck, add them anyway if you have room, because experimentation is important to success in affiliate marketing. If you have a site with content that fits those categories or is a general interest or entertainment site, there are many good programs to choose from at CJ.
Lastly, I did a quick comparison of the average Adsense payout (using 80% of the average of keyword bids for different categories), and Adsense comes out a better EPC about a quarter of the time. So check Adsense first before you put up a CJ ad that has an EPC of a dollar or more. A big banner ad vs. an Adsense ad may seem like a good idea because more exposure may translate into more clicks, but you can fit three Adsense text ads in that banner space.
There are many hidden insights in the data, and I encourage you to go to the website, print out the page and take a look. There might be some terrific-paying programs you can ad to your website.
I’d like to put together a free weekly email service that provides stats like the ones on this page. If this is something you might be interested in, drop me a line.

How to Get Free Publicity in In-flight Magazines
If you’re targeting an educated, more affluent audience with your message, and your topic is a good fit, in-flight magazines can be one of your best publicity tools.
A quick look at the statistics should convince you:
–Many of these magazines have high circulations.
–Many readers are Frequent Flyers, among the most educated and affluent consumers
–60 percent are men; 40 percent women
–74 percent are in the 25-54 age bracket
–86 percent are college-educated
–56 percent hold management positions
–57 percent have incomes of more than $75,000 a year
Here’s what I learned recently about while updating contact information for the in-flight magazines:
–Contact information for most of the 22 magazines in my database had changed in the last two years.
–In general, circulation at most in-flight magazines has dropped from 2002 to 2004.
–Several of the magazines have changed editors.
–One magazine has been renamed and reformatted.
–The editors’ biggest pet peeve is that too many PR people pitch without knowing anything about the publication. Tom Chapman, editor of “Spirit of Aloha” magazine published by Aloha Air, says he’s overwhelmed with PR requests and materials, “99 percent of which is misdirected and I can’t possibly use.”
–I found six magazines, most of which serve airlines in the United Kingdom and Europe, and I’ve added them to my database. Several of them aren’t even in the major media resource directories.
–Editors are still hungry for business news, food trends, interesting events, tourist attractions and celebrities in cities the airlines serve. So make sure your special event is listed in the events calendar if it’s in a city served by one of these airlines.
–Many editors are still inundated with boring travelogues along the lines of “how I spent my summer vacation.” Don’t even bother sending this stuff.
If you can pitch an idea that’s a perfect fit with a magazine’s content, an in-flight magazine can result in thousands of dollars in free publicity.

How to Create a Splash Page for Your Website?
Whenever we go surfing on the internet, we find many websites interesting enough for us to read. In addition to these websites, we can find many pages called splash pages on the internet. Splash pages are introductory pages to a web site. It generally offers some of these features to the viewer; a graphic or a logo design, a choice of entering the site through either a flash design or a design with no flash and sometimes even technical requirements like about the browser, version, etc. needed for that specific site. A splash page is also known as a main entry page housing a graphic image and link for visitors to enter a web site.
These splash designs prove to be quite popular, especially among the designers as they allow the designer to show their skills in flash and any other technology on a single page. The splash page design involved in the splash page will be one that is very attractive to the eye of the viewer. Its main intention lies in captivating the viewer the moment he looks at it. It can be a stationary design or an animated design, which in turn makes it more interesting to look at!
There are quite a few advantages and disadvantages to a splash page. The main advantage of a splash page is that through a splash page, one can get all the information required on the first page of the website without much scrolling as splash pages are fast loading. And just think, after all that effort put into the making of that animation or flash splash page design, you can be confident that through a splash page, the visitors of the site at least see the splash design at least once. Splash pages are a great way to show off the best work you can produce, and thus also act as a portfolio of your work and work capacity for potential employers. As the splash page states the technical requirements required for their particular website, it allows the reader to choose, prior to visiting the site, the technology that best fits them and their computers. It is also a great means of using your server logs to get the complete breakdown of the actual number of customers to the website.
The cons to splash pages are not that many or major. It is only that some readers do not like splash pages as it prevents them from entering the website immediately, and thus may leave the site upon seeing the splash page. Splash pages also tend to break search engines as most splash pages have a redirect. It should be remembered that splash pages cannot be used for sending emails to a third party. As it can be seen, the pros of a splash page heavily outweigh the cons of a splash page. It all lies down on how one accepts a splash page on seeing it! Remember, splash pages are fun to build. They are very creative and allow the user to play around with animation and sound, to get the desired splash page design they need!

Speakers, Communicate Your Speaking Career To The Next Level: Top 7 Tips To Talk Your Way To The Top
Not too long ago, I walked into a room where some of the country’s top oncologists were preparing to launch a new cancer-fighting drug. The occasion was the group’s rehearsal before a big presentation to the Federal Drug Administration. Given that these men and women are some of the best and brightest in their field, I thought the rehearsal would be a breeze. So, I sat down, pen poised to make a few notes so I could help them fine-tune their presentations and be ready for the onslaught of media that was sure to follow.
What a letdown. Five articulate, highly educated, well-dressed presenters, armed with shiny animated slideshows, droned on and on and on and on. It didn’t matter what they were saying because the audience wouldn’t really hear any of it anyway. Around me, eyes closed, and others pretended to take notes while playing solitaire on their laptops. I wondered how in the world I could help these presenters. I also thought about tripling my consultation fee on the spot.
All presenters believe their words are important, and they are. But if you don’t give an audience a good reason to listen, they will quickly tune you out. In an age where sound bite is king, cutting through the clutter is more important now than ever.
Consider the following 7 points before stepping into the limelight:
The Take-Home
No matter how many years and dollars you’ve spent on research and development, no matter the technical complexity of your subject matter, when speaking to a group your entire presentation must boil down to one key point. If you had to sum up your talk in 10 seconds, what would you want your audience to know?
Ask Yourself the Right Questions
What you think a listener needs to know is not always what that listener wants to know. Put yourself in your listener’s seat and ask the following questions: So what? Who cares? What does this mean to the listener, reader or viewer and me? Until you frame your messages from your audience’s perspective, they won’t care. If they don’t care, you’ll never receive their full attention.
Talk in nuggets
Powerful communicators who can hold attention have something in common with each other. They’ve learned that speaking is for the ear, not for the eye. Instead of preparing a presentation as a research paper jammed with minutiae, condense complicated information into bite-sized nuggets and present only the information needed to move an audience toward the desired outcome.
Present, Don’t Read
Is your presentation written like a term paper? Is it written in sentences? Do you allow room for pauses so the listener can participate? People don’t converse in long-winded sentences. We speak in short phrases. So write in phrases or bullet points. You will then find yourself talking more and reading less. Also, take time to pause between key thoughts so your listeners can digest what you’re saying.
Paint the Picture
Explaining the features of your product may be important, but explanation without example has no meaning. People can’t remember all of the facts, but they do remember impressions. By comparing and contrasting, providing analogies and visual images, your presentation will come to life.
Slideshow or Presentation?
No one comes to a presentation to see a slideshow. They come to hear a knowledgeable person share ideas and talk. Visuals should reinforce what you’re saying, not serve as your script. Instead of preparing the slides first, prepare your remarks then create appropriate supporting visuals. Let your words drive the visuals instead of the other way around.
Nix the Jargon
Just because your audience is packed with colleagues or you’re providing information for an industry trade publication doesn’t mean you should talk jargon. Get rid of the buzzwords and throw away phrases. Rather, look for opportunities to put your words in context by humanizing your material and telling stories or anecdotes.
As I worked with the oncologist presenters and brought many of these points to their attention, they worried that simplifying the information would harm their credibility. Quite the opposite. By making an effort to connect with their audience rather than throw too much information at them, they created a focused, central theme with real-life examples that excited and inspired listeners. And in the end, the cancer drug they believed in made it to market and received a lot of good press!

If you had your second cup of coffee, we’re talking about best friends! It is all so important to identify and value one of the greatest unique gifts on our earth–best friends! Now, it is also important to realize that these best friends are a trusty parachute and resource, and not to be taken for naught. You have a responsibility to preserve them.
Make sure to respect not only their efforts, but also their outlook option when you ask for their opinion. Treat your best friends like the precious stone they are, and guarantee their safety. After all, it’s difficult enough to find and keep good friends–much less best friends.

HAWAII PHOTOGRAPHERS DISSCUSS PROS AND CONS OF DIGITAL
PHOTOGRAPHY Part Two
DISADVANTAGES OF BECOMING A DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHER
If you have been a ‘film photographer’, the first and biggest
disadvantage is the cost of new cameras, at least. If you are
already computer literate, and have a good computer with some
kind of imaging software, good. But if not…well, I sorry for
you, eh! Add all that expense, too. And if you’ve been a medium
format photographer as I was, you’re not only going to need new
cameras, but new lenses, too! With computers and imaging
software, even without printers, you have a large investment to
look at.
On the up side of that startup expense is all the money you’re
now going to save by not having to buy film and pay for
processing and proofs.
There is the time element that comes with a “digital workflow”.
You, or someone is going to have to upload your images to your
computer to edit. Then color correct, retouch, and anything else
you want done to your images. And especially at first, it is
quite time consuming as you follow your learning curve.
In my humble opinion, these are the only aspects of digital
photography that can be called disadvantages. And then there’s
the argument that “Digital has taken away business from
professional photographers”.
The argument goes that it is now so easy to take your own
photographs, for whatever purpose and at such low cost, that
companies are taking their own photographs for their advertising
needs, and people are taking their own, or their friends family
photos. And that this is taking business away from
professionals.
There really can be no argument against the truth of this
statement. It is easy to take pictures. And, really, it always
has been since the invention of the “instamatic camera”! Anybody
can aim and push the shutter release button. And that will make
a picture. It’s been that easy with film cameras since the
1960s. So, what’s the difference now?
I don’t know this for certain, but I bet that when automatic
film cameras first came out, there was a small dip in business
for a variety of pro photographers. Why? Because it was so easy
now for anybody to take a picture! And I’m equally sure that
some people who got a camera actually got good at making
photographs.
In reality, though, if you want professional quality
photography, you need to have the photography done
professionally! There’s a lot more to it than point and shoot.
And I believe that eventually the novelty of ‘easy’ digital
photography will wear off, and the more educated and critical
people will take their photography jobs to professionals.

Dogs Beg The Question: Is There Training Available For Our Human
Friends?
The focus of many pet owners seems to be directed towards their
animals, which makes a great deal of sense in most cases.
However, when trying to correct unwanted behavior in your dog
you might want to point that finger inward sometimes and have a
little glimpse in the mirror. It is easy to become annoyed with
your pet when you feel as though you have tried everything and
nothing seems to work.
Maybe your Boston Terrier continues to chew on your shoes or
other objects while you are not at home. Perhaps the Maltese in
your life still has accidents in the house rather than letting
you know she needs to go outside. On the other hand, possibly
you have a Yorkshire Terrier that snips at strangers, even
guests in your home when they try to pet him. All of these and
many other undesirable behaviors that dogs may posses can leave
a pet owner feeling frustrated and at their wits end with their
furry little friend.
Have you ever considered though when faced with one of these
situations that the dog is trying to communicate something to
you? Is it possible that Sparky just feels neglected during
those long days alone at home while you are at work? Sometimes
we can have a big impact on our dogs if we look at our own
behavior and consider what the pooch may be trying to tell us
through their difficult behavior. Obviously dogs can not talk or
speak with us as a human can when they need to communicate their
feelings. That is not to say that canines are not vocal because
as many of us know they can express quite a lot at times through
their barking, growling or whining. However, to really pinpoint
what the issue is for your pet you may find that you are the one
that actually holds the answers.
Dogs have a very keen awareness for their surroundings and the
people in their environment. As most dog owners come to realize,
the bond between your dog and you can be extremely strong. There
are people who report that during a challenging illness or
devastating time in their life that their dog responded as
though they knew what was going on and they helped their owner
through the rough time. Sometimes by just sitting near their
owner or laying at their feet, other times dogs may whine and
pace back and forth, especially when other people are around
because they are trying to indicate that their owner needs help.
Experts have even confirmed that dogs do have an ability to
detect several human emotions and many of them will respond in
unique ways. For example; when there is a lot of anger or
arguing occurring within a household your dog may respond by
acting up in a number of ways, which is not a problem with the
dog but rather your pet is responding to the hostility and
unpleasantness it senses in the house. Everyone goes through
difficult periods in their life and it is obviously impossible
to avoid exposing your dog to any anger or hostile situations
throughout their life. The important thing to remember is that
your situation and how you handle it is not your dog’s choice or
within their area of responsibility.
Dogs deserve and hopefully get, the majority of times anyway, a
good, loving and stable home. They respond well to a structured
environment, complete with rules and routines. If you typically
get up each morning and walk your dog before you go to work and
then you suddenly stop doing it all together, your dog will
respond in some way, possibly a negative one. It is not the
dog’s fault that you changed your behavior and they have no
other way of communicating other than to chew up stuff or have
an accident in the house as their way of saying, “hey what is
going on.” In some cases dogs can even become depressed, this
happens most frequently in situations where the dog was once
loved and well cared for and then suddenly became ignored and
forgotten about. It is really sad to see a dog that is in this
form of doggy-depression because again, they did not ask to come
to live with you, you chose them.
There are obviously other concerns you must deal with when you
are going through a difficult time, like loosing your job or
going through a divorce, and you should always take care of the
important aspects related to these situations. It is
understandable that a dog can suddenly become a lower priority
in your life however, if you are unhappy with their behavior
because they are acting out in response to their environment;
take that into consideration before disciplining your pet or
giving up on them all together.
Dogs may secretly harbor the desire to have all humans attend
some sort of training school before they decide to become a pet
owner, however, since that is not very likely to happen,
remember to think about your own behavior when examining your
dog’s. That precious pooch can sometimes be just what you need
to get through a difficult time and maintaining their routine
for their benefit can in many ways benefit you also.
